How to Modify Your Golf Cart
| BEFORE
AFTER |
Step #1 After the initial tear
down, the different parts went to the appropriate departments for
refurbishing. The front cowling was not worth trying to fiberglass, so a
aftermarket one was purchased. But, the back panel was fiber glassed to match
the original body lines.
Step #2 While the body parts
were being sanded and primed, a lift kit was being engineered for the cart.
Although not easy visible to see due to the tire and body changes, the cart
was given approximately 2 more inches of lift with an additional 3 inches of
extra travel.
Step #3 Once the body parts
were sanded and primed, a base color was picked out. The color of choice was
the Sapphire Blue that was used on the 1995 Ford Mustang. Then the
application of the base color and clear coat was applied.
Step #4 During the base coat
painting process, the engine was rebuilt and calibrated to run more
efficiently and FASTER for this area.
Step #5 The seats needed to be
recovered and additional parts purchased. This was done throughout the
entire process. The little items are just as necessary as the larger ones.
First the seats were sent off for recovering.
Step #6 The original tires
were like new, but were the design of slicks. No traction... Thin Air wanted
the cart to have the capability to go out into the rough and climb the
hills. So, new tires and rims were purchased. Once received the tires were
removed, the rims sand blasted, powder coated, and holographic hub caps
installed.
Step #7 After the base coat
and clear coat were applied, the design and application of the graphics
began. Thin Air wanted something that would stand out. So, the design of
flames were used with chameleon paint was used.
Step #8 While the graphics and
another coat of clear was being applied, the stripping of all the brackets,
bumpers, and seat backs began. Once completely cleaned they were powder
coated in a textured black.
Step #9 Other special
accessories were ordered and re-engineered to fit. The first was a GT
steering wheel. A special adapter was machined so that the steering wheel
could be installed on a golf cart. Thin Air then created a score card holder
from plexi-glass so that the steering wheel could still be seen. In
addition, diamond plate was ordered and installed.
Step #10 As the different
parts were completed, assembly began. There were only 4 more items to be
installed. The first two were the purple nylon straps to hold the clubs in
and the dark plexi-glass etched with the Thin Air Powersports logo.
| Step #11 The final 2 parts
installed were fun items that were needed to complete this project. ANevada
license plate was made with Thin Air Powersports' saying of "Stock Sucks"
and a big foot shaped pedal for the gas! |
